Asian Literature: East Asia
Where tradition and modernity collide.
Where tradition and modernity collide.
Greetings!
We are Batch Paley! We are a group of Senior Humanities students from the University of Asia and the Pacific. Unexpectedly, our name was derived from the word “Palette” which was accidentally mispronounced as “Paley’ from one of our fellow block-mates during our Visual Arts class. This incident may be funny, but it made us realize who we are as a group of witty and playful Humanities students.
We are like the different colors of the artist’s palette. We each have our own distinct personalities, but together we become a group of aspiring individuals who are inspired to learn what it means to truly be a human being through the exposure of history, literature, philosophy, and the arts. Because of the Humanities program of our university, we are given opportunities to test our competence in expressing our own understanding of society today. We hope that we will produce outputs which can contribute to the building of knowledge for the benefit of everyone.
One of these opportunities is the creation of this blog. Our Asian Literature professor tasked us to create a blog where each of us will share our literary analysis or criticism towards an East Asian literary piece of our choosing to test our understanding of the human condition expressed by the work. We hope that this blog will serve as a learning platform for everyone to communicate and share their ideas about Asian literature as well as Asian culture and society.
